The fact that designer Azzedine Alaia first pursued a career in sculpture is immediately apparent; his handbags and apparel share an obsession with the female form and the interplay of structure and light through laser cut detailing. The Tunisian-born designer launched his first collection in 1980 and quickly found success with store openings in New York City and Beverly Hills. Alaia's iconic dresses, handbags and shoes have been championed by the likes of Madonna, Tina Turner, and Grace Jones and have earned the designer significant accolades, including Best Designer of the Year and Best Collection of the year Awards at the Oscars de la Mode.
